On Friday, a family was crossing a street in Staten Island when a Mercedes-Benz ran it down before speeding away. The horrific hit-and-run killed a boy, 5, and caused the hospitalization of his mother and 7-year-old sister.

Bronx, Brooklyn Rocked By Wave Of Pedestrian Accidents

A rash of accidents in the Bronx and Brooklyn recently sent four pedestrians to the hospital. The collisions continue the onslaught of pedestrian accidents in New York City this summer.

Bronx's Elderly Pedestrian Death Toll Is Worse Than Bad

The Bronx has a fatality rate of 4.78 per 100,000 seniors. That's third-worst in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, according to the Tri-State Transportation Campaign. Only Hudson County, N.J., is more dangerous for elderly urbanites. Between 2009 and 2011, the Bronx was the site of 30 pedestrian-collision deaths involving senior walkers.

Police Officer Hits, Kills Brooklyn Man In Crosswalk

A 61-year-old Brooklyn man was killed in a pedestrian accident last weekend. He was lawfully crossing Broadway at Hooper Street in Williamsburg, when a van made a left turn and ran him over in the crosswalk. There was no reason to call the police, however, because the vehicle involved was a NYPD van driven by an on-duty officer.

Suffolk County Accident: Three Children Hit In Crosswalk

Suit Seeks $40 Million For Botched 911 Call Leading To Death

The lives of a 4-year-old girl and her grandmother hung in the balance while a 23-year-old Emergency Medical Services (EMS) worker denied their incoming 911 call and punched out of her computer terminal. This irresponsible and unforgivable act caused a 4-minute, 18-second delay in the response of New York City ambulances - which took an additional 3 minutes and 52 seconds to reach the victims. Errors that contributed to the death of the little girl, Ariel.

SUV Jumps Curb In Midtown, 6 Pedestrians Injured

On Friday, a SUV jumped a curb at Fifth Ave. and E. 46th St. and barreled into a group of pedestrians. The vehicle hit six people, including a child in a stroller. Concerned bystanders rushed the vehicle after it stopped to ensure that no further bloodshed occurred.

Citi Bike Program Launches; Skeptics Point To Manhattan Crash

After much debate and planning, New York City launched North America's largest bike share system this week. The bike share program allows people to use Citi Bikes for short periods of travel. The cost is $95/year; daily and weekly passes are also available, which may prove popular with tourists. Not everyone is pleased with NYC's Citi Bike program, however.

Auto Accident Case Settled for Full Policy

This past week, I had the opportunity to settle a case on behalf of one of our clients.  The client was a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in Brooklyn, while crossing the street.  Our client suffered a broken arm which required surgery and plates and screws to fix.  I settled the case for the full limits of the driver's insurance policy.
