On Jun 7, 2014, a horrific accident involving a semi-truck and a limo bus killed James McNair and seriously injured Tracy Morgan. The accident happened on the New Jersey Turnpike.
The semi-truck belonged to Wal-Mart and the driver is facing charges of assault by auto and vehicle homicide. According to the police, the driver had not slept in more than a day when the accident occured.
Morgan, 46, hasn’t been seen out in public since the crash. He suffered a broken leg, broken ribs, a traumatic brain injury and other injuries. At the time of the accident, he was working on a FXX series, but that has since been put on hold. His attorney said Morgan, “is still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he’s just not better.”
In July last year, Morgan filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart, which claimed that Morgan was injured because he didn’t have a seat belt on. While the terms of the settlement have not been made public, both parties seem satisfied. Morgan said, “Wal-Mart did right by me and my family…” Wal-Mart also said they have “been committed to doing what’s right…”
When a loved one is injured or killed in an accident involving a semi-truck, there may be several individuals and entities that could be liable. A personal injury attorney can help you explore who is liable, what the damages are and whether expert witnesses are needed. All of this works to build a strong case against whoever was responsible for your or your loved one’s injuries.
