A spike in snowplow accidents has many New Yorkers on edge when snow-removal equipment is near them. A Brooklyn woman was recently killed in a Bay Ridge parking lot and diners at a Queens restaurant nearly suffered the same fate on Friday.
Roughly 40 people were in Exo Café when a large crash occurred before glass and ice rained down upon them. Startled patrons, some of them injured, had no idea what had happened.
“It kind of sounded like a bomb went off. It was the loudest noise I ever heard in my life and I was typing in an order,” employee Blane Boyd told PIX11 news.
It was quickly revealed that a snow plow collided with an ice-filled garbage can, sending it crashing into the windows of the Forest Hills restaurant.
The New York Department of Sanitation will penalize the wrongdoers, but injury victims will have to seek compensation through premises liability claims. An experienced NYC premises liability attorney will guide victims through this process.
