New York Pedestrian Survives Collision With Train

People often wonder how someone unintentionally gets hit by a train while walking. A recent accident in New York illustrates one situation where a train collision can occur.

A 21-year-old man was walking on the tracks in Union, NY, but he didn’t hear the train approaching him from behind. Purportedly, the young man was blaring music into his earphones. Amazingly, the pedestrian survived the initial impact and is in critical condition at Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse.

Unfortunately, this type of pedestrian accident is growing increasingly common. When pedestrians blast music into their headphones, they inhibit one of the most important senses for detecting and avoiding danger.

Most of us don’t appreciate how much we use our ears on a daily basis, just to navigate our way through New York City. The proliferation of hybrid cars and their notoriously quiet engines has brought some attention to the importance of sound in avoiding vehicle accidents, but many pedestrians choose to mask their hearing during their commute. Drivers aren’t guilt-free either, as many motorists blare music and dull their senses.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured by a negligent motorist, an experienced NYC auto accident lawyer can help you explore your legal options.
