An 11-year-old Brooklyn boy was seriously injured in a collision with a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus on Monday.
Investigators are still trying to determine what happened, but initially believed that he may have ridden into the back of the bus. The bus driver never saw the child, but passengers heard him screaming after the collision.
The bus accident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Crescent and Weldon streets. The young victim was transported to Brookdale Hospital and remains there with serious injuries.
It’s horrible for a child to go through a life-changing crash. At an age when a boy should be active and playing sports, the bus accident victim will struggle to walk and eat.
If the MTA bus driver acted negligently, the boy’s family will have to file a timely notice of claim with New York City before it is permitted to file a personal injury lawsuit on his behalf.
