A 35-year-old mother was helping her three children cross the street when a SUV slammed into them. Suffolk County police said the children and woman were lawfully using the crosswalk when a Chevy Trailblazer driven by a 49-year-old man hit and injured them.
A 6-year-old boy was hospitalized with a head injury, while his 3-year-old sister suffered a lacerated finger. An 11-year-old girl also suffered head injuries, but they were less serious than her brother’s.
The driver remained at the scene. His 2003 Trailblazer was impounded by police to determine whether any auto defects contributed to the accident. When a driver blames an accident on a vehicle malfunction, such as brakes, the police may impound it to determine the veracity of the statement and to prevent it from causing further harm.
If you or your child has been seriously injured while crossing the street, an experienced New York pedestrian accident attorney can help you explore your legal options for recovering compensation.
