Immigrant Killed In New York Construction Accident

A 24-year-old man recently died in a construction accident in upstate New York. The victim, an Irish immigrant, was unloading a 1,700 pound pipe from the back of a flatbed truck when the pipe shifted and fell onto him, pinning him to the ground.

Coworkers were able to free the man after several minutes and he was rushed to Saratoga Hospital. Unfortunately, the internal injuries were too severe and he was quickly pronounced dead.

The New York State Police and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the construction accident. It appears that some safety precautions were overlooked, as the heavy pipe shouldn’t have shifted while the construction worker was beneath it.

The victim worked for a company owned by his uncle, Feeney Brothers Corp of Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Heavy construction is an inherently dangerous profession; it’s essential for contractors to ensure that safety protocol is always followed. So much tragedy can result from just one slip-up.
